This easy whipped ricotta recipe is lusciously smooth and silky, incredibly versatile, and ridiculously easy to make.

Now, if it sounds strange to whip ricotta, hear me out. Even the best ricotta can have somewhat of a grainy texture, and whipping it breaks up those tiny curds.

When blended with a touch of honey and orange, whipped ricotta has a smooth, creamy texture and magically transforms into a delicious appetizer spread, creamy dip, or luscious topping forcake, pancakes, and waffles.

Ingredients

Creamy whipped ricotta is an easy recipe that comes together with a handful of ingredients.

Ricotta. For best results, use the highest quality whole milk ricotta cheese you can find. Low-fat whipped ricotta has a looser consistency and isn’t as creamy. Lower quality, store-brand ricotta is grainier than usual and doesn't whip up as smoothly.

Orange juice and zest.Fresh citrus livens up the ricotta and adds fresh flavor. Lemon juice and lemon zest are delicious, too.

Honey.A little bit of honey adds the right amount of sweetness and perfectly enhances the citrus.

Recipe Variation: Make it Savory

To make a creamy whipped ricotta dip with savory flavors, omit the honey, orange juice, and orange zest. Blend the ricotta and add chopped fresh herbs, a few red pepper flakes, a little olive oil, and freshly ground black pepper on top of the dip.

Serve withroasted vegetables, fresh vegetables, crackers, pita chips, or crusty bread.

  • A hand mixer, blender, or food processor all work well to whip the ricotta into a luscious smooth consistency.

Hello! I thought I would give this a try for Easter. I can’t seem to make mine smooth. It’s still gritty. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

Hi, Miranda! Thanks so much for your note! 🙂 I've found there's a big difference in the quality of ricotta in the stores. The lower quality ricottas are chalky and tend to have a grittier consistency, while the higher quality ones are much smoother. If you've got the best you can find, you can also try running it through a blender or food processor for a couple of minutes. I hope this helps, let me know! 🙂 Thanks, Cara
