April 19 Remembrance Ceremony to honor those lost in 1995 (2024)

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – A crowd gathered for a remembrance ceremony at the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum Friday morning.

On April 19, 1995, a terrorist bombed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Downtown Oklahoma City, destroying it and damaging hundreds of building surrounding. During the bombing, 168 lives were lost.

29 years later, the memory is still fresh for many in the community.

On Friday, April 19, 2024, a crowd gathered for the 29th anniversary of the dreadful day and to remember those who died.

During the ceremony, the names of all who died were read aloud and there was 168 seconds of silence as the community remembered those affected by the destruction.

Friday, April 26, 2024, starts Memorial Marathon weekend in Oklahoma City with the Run to Remember.

As the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon approaches, 168 banners are now on display to honor those killed in the 1995 bombing. The banners were installed along the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon course to inspire runners on race day.

The Memorial Marathon began in 2001 and now hosts multiple races including a marathon, half marathon, 5K, 5-person relay, kids marathon and senior marathon. A whole weekend devoted to remembering that day and those lost.
