Chrissy Teigen wants kids to join social media 'after high school' (2024)

Chrissy Teigen revealed that she hopes to keep her children off of social media until they finished high school, expressing that it would be an 'absolute dream' for her.

The TV personality, 38 - who recentlydocumented a tense flight takeoff that left her 'bracing for impact' - opened up about the topic on Tuesday duringAura's first Digital Parenthood Summit in NYC.

At one point amid the conversation, the mother-of-four explained she didn't want her kids becoming social media users untiltheygraduated from high school, perPeople.

'Unless there are more rules and regulations in place, I would prefer for them not to be on social,' Teigen explained to host and DreamWorksfounder, Jeffre Katzenberg.

'I want them to be safe and happy and flourishing as kids,' she added amidst the inaugural event.

Chrissy shares Luna, eight, Miles, six, Esti, one, and Wren, eleven months with husband, John Legend - whom she tied the knot with in 2013.

The media personality further explained that children 'won't have the capacity to understand how fake this bulls**t is.'

Despite wanting her own children to be a part of social media later in life, Teigen talked about showing her four kids on her own social media platforms, including Instagram.

'I do share them a lot, because, in so much of my life, I feel like people don't understand me. But being a mom is where a lot of people understand me.'

The model continued, 'I love getting to have this community online here to get to share the ups and downs and people get to see it all.'

Also during the chat, the beauty explained that her children are regulated when it comes to how much time they spend on iPads and watching YouTube. 'There's a tight timeframe. Maybe an hour on the weekends.'

She then shared her concern over inappropriate advertisem*nts on YouTube that young children can be exposed to.

'Who am I going to call [to complain]? It makes me very uncomfortable,' the cookbook author added.

Back in June 2021, Chrissy was embroiled in controversy when cyber-bullying allegations came to light.

An assortment of tweets that she shared in the past had resurfaced, with one showing Teigen urging Courtney Stodden, who was age 16 at the time, to'go to sleep forever.'

Other past tweets had also come to light, which had been aimed at Lindsay Lohan as well as Farrah Abraham.

'Lindsay adds a few more slits to her wrists when she sees emma stone,' the TV personality had written back in January 2011.

However, later in 2021, Chrissy issued a statement on Medium where she took accountability for her actions and also apologized.

At the time, she wrote, 'I know I've been quiet, and lord knows you don't want to hear about me, but I want you to know I've been sitting in a hole of deserved global punishment, the ultimate "sit here and think about what you've done."'

'Not a day, not a single moment has passed where I haven't felt the crushing weight of regret for the things I've said in the past.'

She later added in the lengthy message that 'there is simply no excuse for my past horrible tweets' and said that she had been a 'troll.'

In conclusion, Chrissy had penned, 'I won't ask for your forgiveness, only your patience and tolerance.'

'I ask that you allow me, as I promise to allow you, to own past mistakes and be given the opportunity to seek self improvement and change...'

In October 2021, she made her first TV appearance since the cyber-bullying scandal on Today to address the controversy, and revealed she took time to 'grow and learn' from her mistakes.

'I look at my kids and what I want their values to be and how I want them to treat people, and to see that in myself that I wasn't doing that was, I think, the hardest part for me.'

Teigen added, 'I didn't really think about the impact and the person on the other side,' while revealing she also reached out to those that she had hurt.

'There's this whole cliché, "I'm glad it happened," but truly it made me a stronger person, a better person. I'm actually 100 days sober today. I feel very clearheaded,' the star said at the time.

Chrissy stated that since the scandal, she has 'done the work' and added, 'I just hope that these people can forgive and be able to welcome the fact that they've hopefully seen me be better.'

Teigen has continued to be open with her fans and followers, and last month in May, opened up facing 'dark' times.

She posted a photo and video of herself returning to do a log crossing - which she had also done a few years earlier when 'struggling mentally.'

Chrissy then admitted that she still faces mental struggles and explained that the crossing was still 'hard.'

'I thought that since I have seen times that were so dark since the last time I did this, that I would be fearless on this god d**n thing. But I'm still so scared.Then I realized I now live my whole life so scared.'

'I don't enjoy much outside my family, my few friends, television and crafts. I feel like a very shrunken version of myself. And I know I am meant to be big.'

She also added she is 'fearful' of 'letting you guys down' but said she 'will continue to work on it all and try to balance my brain with rational thoughts, and try to be kind to myself and my body and mind.'

And on Wednesday, Chrissy Teigen took to her Instagram stories to share a lighthearted clip as she munched on a bagel with cream cheese and caught up on 90 Day Fiancee: Happily Ever After?

'I'm sorry, John,' she said, referencing to her husband. 'I know you're gone, but you're gone for too long. And now, I watch Happily Ever After without you...'

In another clip, Teigen continued to enjoy a bagel but opted to try a jalapeno cream cheese, which she struggled to eat.

'You guys, I am Thai. We eat the hottest food in the world, but since Esti, I can't take spice as much anymore. I still do it, but my body is rejecting it. How do I get it back?' she asked her fans.
