Bay fishermen have always made
less on brown shrimp than gulf
shrimpers because of the way the
season is set up and the different
areas
Bay shrimping season opens from
May 15 to Aug 15, when shrimp stop
for a short period in the bay during
their trip from the bayous and
estuaries to the gulf
The shrimp are still small and it
takes a lot more of them to make the
pound, for which the bay fishermen

as Calhoun Community Federal
Credit Union loan officer; prior to
that he had served the Department
of the Interior for 27 years.
Chuck and his wife, Joyce, chose
to remain in Port Lavaca rather
than transfer with the Interior
Department.
“We stayed the first time because
of the kids,” Chuck says. “After my
second retirement, we stayed
